Marshall County Schools has received the 2025 Kentucky Comprehensive Literacy Grant from the Kentucky Department of Education. The $1.56 million dollar grant, to be used to improve student reading and writing achievement, will run through 2029 with an initial award of $312,000 in June of this year.
This funding will allow the district to improve oral language, increase readiness for school, strengthen transitions between school levels, improve reading and writing instruction, and improve student literacy outcomes. The Department of Education will walk beside the Marshall County School District in developing a districtwide vision for reading and writing instruction while creating a district and school level Literacy Plan. The funds will provide curriculum and training for teachers and administrators. The funds will be used on all levels - early childhood, elementary, middle and high.
"This literacy grant is a wonderful opportunity for our district and we are thrilled and honored to be receiving it,” said district Supervisor of Instruction Jackie Reid. “We are committed to ensuring that every child has the literacy skills necessary to thrive, and this grant will significantly accelerate our progress towards that goal.”
Only 39 school districts in the state were awarded this highly competitive grant. Marshall County Schools will continue its dedication in seeking funding opportunities such as this to enhance student learning and future success. Grants previously obtained by the district have supported areas such as math and reading instruction, vibrant learning, student safety, emotional wellness, career exploration, staff training, and food programs.
