Calvert City Community Advisory Team Awards Spring Grants and Scholarships to Area Schools

Calvert City, KY – April 10, 2025 - The Calvert City Community Advisory Team (CCCAT) awarded

a total of $16,023 in Major and Mini Grants along with $10,000 in Scholarships.

Major-Grants

One major grant was awarded to a school Livingston County based on one approved teacher

application:

 Teacher Jennifer Smith at Livingston County School District– 6 th to 8th Grades “Robotics

and Coding Project,” major-grant award $7,500.

Mini-Grants

Six mini grants were awarded to schools in Marshall County and Livingston County from teacher

applications approved by the CCCAT:

 Teacher Justin Mitchell at South Marshall Middle School – 7 th Grade “Chemical Reactions

and Matter,” mini-grant award $1,500.

 Teacher Hayley Donohoo at Calvert City Elementary School – 3 rd Grade “How Can Energy

Be Transferred and Used to Solve Everyday Problems,” mini-grant award $1,500.

 Teacher Abbye Moore at Sharpe Elementary School – K-5 th Grades “Building Masters-

Design, Create and Inspire with KEVA Planks,” mini-grant award $1,500.

 Teacher Jennifer Smith at Livingston County School District – K-5 th Grades “Family

Science Night STEM Tubs,” mini-grant award $1,818.

 Teacher Miriam Gibson at North Marshall Middle School – 7 th Grade “Identification of

Chemical Reactions,” mini-grant award $1,017.

 Teacher Brad Darnall at South Marshall Elementary School – K-5 th Grades “Bridges Math

Intervention Kits with Manipulatives,” mini-award grant $1,188.

Scholarships

Each Spring semester, $10,000 in scholarships are awarded. 10 - $1,000 scholarships are

provided for Junior and Senior students at UK College of Engineering Paducah Campus. Check

presentation was made at the Calvert City Community Advisory Team’s March meeting.

“Arkema, along with other members of the CCCAT, is pleased to fund the 2025 spring science,

technology, engineering, and math (STEM) grants. Critical thinking and problem solving skills

are necessary to work in today’s industry. Spring grant funding will assist Marshall and

Livingston County school system educators in teaching these vital skills to over 1,250 students.

We are proud to play a role in that effort”, said Clint Stone, Environmental Manager with

Arkema.

The Calvert City Community Advisory Team

The CCCAT members approve applications for mini-grants each spring and fall. Major grants

and scholarships are approved each spring. The next round of mini-grant applications will be

emailed to the local schools in Marshall and Livingston Counties in the fall of 2025. The grants

and scholarships are funded by the 10 Calvert City plant members.

Formed in 1992, the Calvert City Community Advisory Team membership includes area

residents and representatives from 10 Calvert City chemical and industrial plants. The team

meets eight times a year to discuss issues and share information of interest to both residents

and the plants. The group provides a forum for the plants to interact directly with the

community.

The Calvert City companies that participate in the advisory team are Arkema, Inc.; Ashland;

Carbide Industries, LLC; Cymetech Corporation; Estron Chemical, Inc.; Evonik Corporation;

Lubrizol Advanced Materials; Sekisui SC; Wacker Chemical Corporation; and Westlake Vinyls,

Inc.
